With less than 6 weeks remaining for employers to become compliant, chances for the overtime rule to be delayed or blocked are dwindling.

Currently, there are pending legal challenges to the overtime rule's implementation, including a lawsuit filed in a Texas federal court by a group of 21 states. In mid-October, these states asked the Court for an injunction preventing the rule from taking effect; however, the Court has yet to issue a ruling.

Why do your workers come in sick?

Presenteeism is the idea of workers going into work when they are sick. Recent researched looked to gain a better understanding of presenteeism and what causes it and to understand what leadership could to do minimize it. The research concluded that a demanding workplace atmosphere, stressful environments and job insecurity were the main reasons why workers were inclined to go into the office despite their illness. The research concluded that a higher level of motivation influences people to work when they’re sick. Those who were more motivated also demonstrated to be more committed to their organization and to have higher levels of job satisfaction. Some other reasons workers aren’t eager to take a day off include finding work coverage, understaffing, personal financial stresses, and overtime according to the study. The changing benefit landscape – what your company needs to know

While most HR teams are very good at analyzing short term data and responding to trends, not everyone goes through the exercise of examining long-term data to understand the changing landscape. Employees more reliant on fitness apps and wearable fitness tools

In the past two years, twice as many Americans have started using wearable fitness tools and fitness smartphone apps to help in managing their health and wellbeing. Many employers aren’t eager to share their data collected with their employers, however. Nearly 33 percent of Americans are using mobile health applications. This number is up from just around 16 percent in 2014. Recent research indicates the applications are used primarily for fitness at nearly 60 percent, followed by diet and nutrition at approximately 50 percent and management of symptoms at around 35 percent. For employers searching for ways to gain insight into their employees health and fitness habits, wearable devices are a low cost means to gather data.
